Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Mami Coker ("we," "us," "the platform") connects people in Freetown, Sierra Leone with local service providers — plumbers, electricians, tailors, tutors, and more. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled. We've kept it in plain language and limited it to what the platform actually does.
1. Who This Applies To
Seekers — people browsing the site to find a service provider. You don't need an account, and we don't require any information from you to browse or contact a provider.
Providers — people who register to list a service. Registering requires phone verification and creates a public profile.
2. Information We Collect
If you register as a provider, we collect:
- Phone number — your primary identity on the platform, verified via a one-time SMS/WhatsApp code.
- WhatsApp number (optional) — if different from your phone number, used so clients can reach you.
- Name, service category, description, and neighborhood — shown on your public profile.
- Listing details — title, description, price range, and any photos you upload for a specific listing.
- Availability status — whether you've marked yourself "Available" or "Unavailable."
We also temporarily store the verification code sent to your phone, the number it was sent to, and a record of whether it was delivered, for troubleshooting delivery issues. A code stops working after 10 minutes or once used, and the whole record is deleted after 35 days. Only a daily count of codes sent is kept after that.
Apart from the optional email on the updates list (below), we do not collect email addresses, payment information, or government ID. There is no in-app payment system — Mami Coker does not process, store, or have visibility into any payment between you and a provider.
If you're a seeker, we don't collect information about you. When you tap "Contact on WhatsApp," we record only that a tap happened on that provider's profile, and when. No name, phone number, IP address, or device details are saved with it, and it is not linked to you in any way. If you tap a "Share" button, or open a link someone shared with you, we record only which kind of share it was, which provider it was about (if any), and when. Nothing about you is saved with it. If you click "List Your Service," we record which button it was, the page it was on, your approximate country and city (worked out from your IP address by our hosting provider; the IP address itself is not saved), and when.
If you leave a review, we store the star rating, the name you type and your comment, with the date. We don't ask for or save your phone number, IP address or device details with it. Reviews are checked before they are published, may be edited (for example to remove a phone number or address), and once published are visible to anyone who visits that provider's profile, under the name you gave.
If you sign up for updates at mamicoker.com/updates, we store your WhatsApp number (confirmed with a code), and, only if you give them, your name, your email address and the kinds of service you’re interested in. We also keep where you signed up (for example, at an event), the exact wording you agreed to, and when. This list is never shown publicly, never shared or sold, and used only to send you Mami Coker updates.
3. Your Profile Is Public
If you register as a provider, your name, category, description, neighborhood, and availability status are visible to anyone who visits the site — no account or login is required to view them. Your WhatsApp number (or your phone number, if you didn't give a separate one) is not shown on the page. It is only given out when someone taps the "Contact on WhatsApp" button, which opens a WhatsApp conversation with you, so anyone who taps it can see it. To make it harder to collect numbers in bulk, we limit how many numbers one connection can open in an hour.
Photos you add to a listing, and your profile picture, are public too: anyone who visits the site can see them, and your profile picture is shown next to your name in search results. Photos taken on a phone can contain hidden location data. The site tries to remove it from your photos before they are uploaded, but please still avoid photos that show your home address or other private details.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To verify your phone number and let you log in without a password
- To display your provider profile and listings to people searching for your service
- To let you manage your profile and listings (toggle availability, renew or remove listings)
- To send occasional updates to people who signed up for them, and only until they stop them
- To show providers how many times the "Contact on WhatsApp" button on their profile was tapped, and to understand how the platform is used and shared overall
- To detect and prevent abuse — for example, limiting how many verification codes can be requested for one phone number in a short period, locking a code after repeated wrong attempts, and limiting how many taps can be counted from one connection in a short period
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
5. Third Parties We Work With
We rely on a small number of service providers to run the platform:
- Infobip — sends the verification code to your phone via WhatsApp, and our updates if you signed up for them. Infobip processes your phone number solely to deliver those messages.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — when a seeker taps "Contact on WhatsApp," the conversation happens directly on WhatsApp, outside of Mami Coker. We don't see, store, or have access to those messages. WhatsApp's own privacy policy governs that conversation.
- Neon — hosts our database (provider profiles, listings, verification records).
- Vercel — hosts the website and, if you upload listing photos, stores those image files.
Each of these providers only receives the information necessary for the function they perform.
6. Cookies
We use two cookies, both essential to the platform's function — no tracking or advertising cookies:
- session — keeps you logged in as a provider for 30 days.
- verified_phone — a short-lived (15-minute) cookie confirming your phone was verified, used only to complete registration or an updates sign-up.
7. Data Retention
- Verification codes expire after 10 minutes and cannot be reused. The code, the number it went to and its delivery record are deleted after 35 days; only a daily count of codes sent is kept.
- The updates list keeps your details until you stop updates. After that we delete your name, email and interests, and keep only your number, where and when you signed up, and when you stopped, so we know never to message you again. Ask us (Section 10) to remove even that.
- Listings automatically expire 30 days after creation (or after renewal) and stop appearing publicly, though the record is kept so you can renew it.
- Listing photos and your profile picture are deleted from storage when you remove or replace them, or when the listing or your profile is deleted. Copies may take up to an hour to stop appearing.
- Contact-button taps (just a provider and a time) are kept for as long as that provider's profile exists, and are deleted along with it.
- Share counts (just the kind of share, the provider it was about if any, and a time) are deleted along with that provider's profile. Counts not about a provider are kept to understand how the platform is shared.
- "List Your Service" clicks (just the button, the page, an approximate country and city, and a time) are kept to understand how providers find the platform.
- Provider profiles are kept until you ask us to delete them (see Section 8) — there's currently no self-service "delete my account" option in the app itself.
8. Your Choices
You can update your profile information or mark yourself unavailable at any time from your dashboard. To request that your provider profile and associated data be removed entirely, contact us using the details in Section 10.
You can stop updates at any time with the link in any of our messages, or by messaging us and asking. Signing up for updates is never required to use the site.
9. Children's Privacy
Mami Coker is intended for adults offering or seeking services and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
10. Contact Us

11. Changes to This Policy
If we change what information we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above.
